ABOUT TANGOS AI

Tangos AI is building the AI platform that automates financial crime investigations. Compliance teams at banks and fintechs drown in alerts (money laundering, fraud, sanctions), and every one of them still ends with a human writing up a case by hand. Our platform maps entities and ownership structures, gathers and reasons over the evidence, and produces a documented, audit-ready investigation file.

We’re a small, senior team with people from U.S. Treasury/OFAC, Israeli intelligence, and AI research, and early enough that the people we hire now will shape the architecture, not inherit it.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re looking for a full stack engineer who treats AI as part of how software gets built, not as autocomplete. Design, implementation, tests, refactors, docs, debugging: we expect AI in the loop across all of it, and we expect you to have opinions about where it works and where it doesn’t.

This is an end-to-end ownership role. You’ll take major product areas from a problem statement through technical design, implementation, release, and production support, working directly with the founders, product, and domain experts. The stack leans backend, but ownership runs from API contracts to a polished UI. You’ll work alongside frontend engineers while remaining responsible for the complete feature.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Design and build backend services and APIs in NestJS and TypeScript, with clear API contracts, tenant-aware behavior, and explicit handling of partial failures.
  • Build the product’s interfaces in React, Tailwind CSS, and shadcn/ui: investigation-to-report workflows, bulk screening, entity graphs, and evidence review screens with traceable links to source evidence.
  • Own investigation-to-report and bulk-screening features end to end: technical design, implementation, tests, rollout, and what happens after they’re live. Success means features accepted against agreed criteria, regression coverage, and reliable production behavior.
  • Use AI tools as a core part of your workflow (scaffolding, code review, test generation, refactors, debugging, documentation) and help set how the team works with them.
  • Write and maintain end-to-end test coverage with Playwright, and keep the CI/CD pipeline something the team trusts.
  • Work with the AI team to integrate and validate LLM-driven product capabilities: retrieval, agentic flows, evaluation, and guardrails. Your focus is product integration and validation, rather than model research.
  • Work directly with compliance and investigations experts to turn domain knowledge into product.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 6+ years as a full stack developer.
  • Proven experience delivering production systems used by external users.
  • Strong backend experience with Node.js / NestJS and TypeScript.
  • Strong frontend experience with React and a modern component and styling stack (Tailwind, shadcn/ui, or equivalent).
  • Working experience with Playwright or a comparable E2E testing framework.
  • Works with AI development tools daily (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or similar) and can show how they changed the way you work.
  • Experience designing scalable APIs and distributed systems.
  • Track record of leading significant technical work independently, start to finish.
  • Excellent English, written and spoken.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience working with enterprise customers.
  • Experience building LLM/agent-based product features (RAG, tool use, evals).
  • Background in fintech, compliance, AML/KYC, fraud, or another regulated domain.
  • Experience with graph data, entity resolution, or data-intensive systems.
  • Python, cloud-native infrastructure, and Kubernetes.
  • You’ve been an early engineer at a startup before.

WHY TANGOS

  • Small team, real ownership: your decisions show up in the product within days.
  • An AI-native engineering culture that’s practiced, not just on a slide.
  • A domain where the work matters: the output is the case file a regulator reads.
