ABOUT TANGOS AI
Tangos AI is building the AI platform that automates financial crime investigations. Compliance teams at banks and fintechs drown in alerts (money laundering, fraud, sanctions), and every one of them still ends with a human writing up a case by hand. Our platform maps entities and ownership structures, gathers and reasons over the evidence, and produces a documented, audit-ready investigation file.
We’re a small, senior team with people from U.S. Treasury/OFAC, Israeli intelligence, and AI research, and early enough that the people we hire now will shape the architecture, not inherit it.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a foundational leadership hire. You’ll own how Tangos builds software: the architecture, the team, the process, and the quality bar for AI agents that operate in zero-tolerance-for-error domains.
You’ll work directly with the CEO and CTO on product direction and company strategy, and grow R&D from a small senior team to scale. You stay close to the code: this is a hands-on role, not a management-only seat.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Define and own the engineering strategy, architecture, and technical roadmap; lead design reviews and ensure clear technical decisions across the team.
- Build, lead, and mentor the R&D team as it grows from single digits to scale: hiring, onboarding, and career growth.
- Partner with the CEO and CTO on product direction, priorities, and company strategy.
- Set engineering culture, processes, and the quality bar: high coding standards, maintainable code, automated testing, and production observability, including how the team works with AI tools day to day.
- Establish and enforce a disciplined SDLC across the team, from planning and design through code review, testing, validation, integration, release, and production operation.
- Drive delivery of autonomous agent systems whose output must be correct, explainable, and audit-ready.
- Own the engineering side of enterprise delivery: security, reliability, and the standards banks and regulators expect. Work with customer technical teams to define integration requirements, deployment plans, and acceptance criteria.
- Stay hands-on: review code, take part in design, and ship when it matters.
REQUIREMENTS
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, with 5+ years leading engineering teams.
- Track record of scaling teams and shipping complex products from 0 to 1.
- Proven experience delivering production systems used by external users.
- Experience leading software delivery in highly regulated environments, including security, validation, and auditability requirements.
- Experience delivering software to enterprise customers and integrating it with their systems, working with customer technical teams through deployment and acceptance.
- Hands-on with code, with a deep technical background in backend systems, distributed architecture, or AI/ML.
- Experience with LLMs, autonomous agents, or reasoning systems in production.
- Works with AI development tools daily (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or similar) and can lead a team in adopting them.
- Experience in a high-growth, early-stage environment; comfortable with ambiguity and moving priorities.
- Strong opinions on engineering culture, held loosely: collaborative and transparent.
- Excellent English, written and spoken.
NICE TO HAVE
- Background in fintech, compliance, AML/KYC, or fraud detection.
- Familiarity with investigation workflows or the financial crime domain.
- Experience with security and compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001).
WHY TANGOS
- Small team, real ownership: your decisions show up in the product within days.
- An AI-native engineering culture that’s practiced, not just on a slide.
- A domain where the work matters: the output is the case file a regulator reads.
